KRITI LALLA
(2001 - )

SOUTH AFRICAN CHAMPION (under 10 girls)

Our youngest club member, Kriti Lalla, had a most successful December at the South African junior chess championships, held in Johannesburg. Kriti started off by scoring 7/7 on board 2 for the KZN under 10 team in the teams event. She then followed that up with 8/9 in the under 10 girls championships.

In April 2011 she took part in the SA Junior Closed held in Johannesburg, finishing 1st with 8 points out of 9 (8 wins, 1 loss) to confirm her status as the top under 10 girl. Her father has written a detailed report with photos which you can find on the KZN Chess Union website. This win secures Kriti's place in the South African team for the World Youth championships, to be held in Caldas Novas (Brazil) in November this year.

The following photos are of Kriti at a tournament earlier in 2010, and playing doubles in the Japanese Gardens at Ashley's farewell party in August 2010 (from left to right, Peter Dankelmann, Kriti Lalla, Ashley Lewis, Keith Rust and Paul Curry).

The Natal Mercury published an article about Kriti's achievement on the 13th January 2011. Here is a link for the article published in the Mercury
