Erick at the 2009 Open

Erick was born in Zimbabwe and has a degree in the human resources field. He has been very successful in the annual Kwa-Zulu Natal Open, starting with a tie for 1st place with Spencer Masango on 7½ out of 8 in the 2009 Open (missing out on the Open title on tiebreak). He became domiciled in Durban after the 2009 event, and finished joint second in 2010 just ½ point behind Masango. This earnt him the Closed title on tiebreak, ahead of Ashley Lewis. In 2011 he once again shared 1st place, this time with IM Johannes Mabusela, scoring 7/8. Erick again finished joint second in 2012 just ½ point behind the winner, Vincent Choko. He won the 2012 Closed title on tiebreak.

In 2010 Erick played in the Durban championships for the first time, finishing in 2nd place with 6½ points after a loss to Keith Rust. In 2011 he shared 1st place in the event with Jason Subke and Keith Rust, all on 7/9. This was the third triple tie in the club's history.
