Mr Gray was the 1917 Durban champion and won the title only once. His name is
the first to be engraved on the small silver trophy presented to the club in 1917
by G.A. Champion Esq. (a well known Durban pharmacist and member of the club
since 1897). He was still active in 1924, when Reitstein notes that "The Durban
nomination, G.W. Grey (sic), withdrew at the last moment" from the 1924 South
African championships, which were held in Durban. Otherwise, I have been unable
to discover anything else about Mr Gray.
So far I have been unable to find any games by Mr Gray.
